Job Description:
The Customer Success team is seeking a Technical Writer with aviation or the defense industry and experience writing technical manuals. We are looking for someone to dig into the details and work with the maintenance, test flight and customer success
teams.
The successful candidate will have extensive technical writing experience and be capable of conflating complex technical ideas into succinct prose. This technical writing position will be responsible for Shield AI’s growing number of technical publications for the Customer Success team, including aircraft operation and maintenance manuals, training materials, work instructions, templates, proposals and more. This opportunity has growth potential within Customer Success and beyond.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Research documents and develop technical specifications, alert bulletins, training materials and other procedures and reports.
- Collect and accumulate appropriate technical information through researching and analyzing technical data and publications, engineering drawings, test procedures and plans, design specifications, pre-existing documentation, software description documents, and engineering documents and by interviewing technical experts.
- Ensures documents are developed in accordance with the requested specifications and contractual requirements, including development of any necessary illustrations, photographs, or other graphic representations.
- Ensures final materials clearly and effectively communicate the technical information and data to appropriate audiences.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned or required.

Required qualifications:
- 5 or more years of technical writing experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in technical writing or a related field including but not limited to electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, or physics
- Experience working with technical manuals
- Strong self-sufficient work ethic
- Stellar copyediting skills
- Desire to maintain and improve existing documentation
- Capability of creating order from chaos
- Enjoyment of fast-paced environments and tight deadlines
- Eye for consistency and detail, especially across a documentation set
- An encyclopedic knowledge of English grammar
- Ability to recognize relevant and missing information
- Ability to write concisely
- Willingness to work across time zones
- Eagerness to work in a nontraditional defense contracting environment
- Strong sense of honor
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of MIL- HDBK-1222F
- Defense Industry experience
- Avionics experience
- Master’s degree in English, Electrical Engineering, or a related subject
- Project management skills
- Experience writing proposals
- Experience with ChatGPT

Total compensation: Salary within range listed above + Bonus + Benefits + Equity (if applicable)
Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location. All offers are contingent on a cleared background check.
Location guidelines-
Onsite = 5 days/week in office
Hybrid = Minimum 3 days/week in office
Remote = Remote but able to come to the office as requested for business needs
