Hivemapper builds the world’s freshest maps by having humans and AI do what they do best.
Since the launch of the mapping network in November 2022, Hivemapper contributors have mapped more than 4 million unique kilometers of roads using dashcams and smartphones. Behind the scenes, Hivemapper’s advanced Map AI transforms the raw data into useful maps to help forward looking businesses power their services and experiences. These uses include enterprise tech, mapping and navigation, transportation and logistics, insurance and real estate.
The work at Hivemapper is fast-paced, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary. We focus on solving hard problems, and we invest in our rapidly growing team and tech to do so.
Hivemapper is looking for a Quality Assurance Analyst to improve the contributor experience and the quality of map data generated by our tech stack. If you’re an organized, collaborative and technically skilled analyst with a relentless drive to do big things, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define test cases and test plans for new hardware and software configurations
  • Execute test cases, interpret results and report to the broader team
  • Build dashboards and write queries to spot trends in hardware/app performance
  • Resolve escalated support inquiries involving technical issues
  • Find and document bugs, then help technical partners track them to resolution
  • Engage directly with the community on Discord to understand user experience
  • Advocate for the interests of contributors and map data customers
  • Manage community beta tester programs for new hardware and app builds

You should apply if you have the following:

  • 4+ years of quality assurance experience, including writing and executing test plans
  • Experience troubleshooting issues with both hardware and firmware, ideally in a manufacturing, testing or operations environment
  • A strong bias to action, moving quickly to identify critical issues and never letting a perfect test plan be the enemy of a good test plan
  • Comfort tinkering with consumer hardware such as cameras, drones or IoT devices by making modifications and combining components
  • Foresight to anticipate the downstream effects of product changes, and no hesitation to raise potential issues
  • Experience writing SQL queries and Python scripts for data analysis
  • Clear communication, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and follow through on several commitments at the same time
  • You have a car and a valid driver’s license, and drive enough in your personal life to get meaningful seat time with Hivemapper’s dashcams and contributor app
  • You can be flexible with working hours, shifting to provide added coverage on weekends prior to major releases

Bonus if you have the following:

  • A degree in engineering or computer science
  • Knowledge of cameras and GPS/GNSS hardware
  • Interest, knowledge or experience related to mapping or geospatial technology
  • Experience working for an early-stage (<50 people) technology company
