About the Role:

As Counsel, Litigation & Risk Management, you will help lead the company’s response to employment- related and operational disputes, and help proactively manage legal risk across a large, multi-state care network. You will partner closely with both HQ and Care operations teams to address pre-litigation disputes and litigation, provide practical advice on employment and compliance issues, and build scalable processes that reduce risk and support compliant growth.

This role is critical to ensuring that Honor navigates an increasingly complex regulatory and litigation landscape while continuing to operate efficiently and compassionately at scale. You will have the opportunity to directly influence business practices, shape risk mitigation strategies, and work at the intersection of legal, operations, and technology.

This is a remote role. Occasional time-sensitive matters may require responsiveness outside of standard business hours or travel.

About the Team:

The Care Platform Legal team provides practical legal support to Honor’s operations, People team, and leadership across a multi-state workforce. In this role, you will work closely with the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel (Care, Litigation & Employment) and a Risk Management & Litigation Specialist. You will also be part of the broader Legal, Standards, and Advocacy team, working collaboratively to support and advise on matters across the company.

As Counsel at Honor, you will:

  • Manage and drive strategy for employment-related disputes (including wage & hour, discrimination, and retaliation matters) and improving outcomes through effective case assessment and resolution strategy, and identifying trends and root causes to inform proactive risk mitigation and operational improvements
  • Provide advice on non-employment claims, including service-related incidents, professional liability matters, and other operational risks
  • Draft and respond to attorney demand letters and other pre-litigation correspondence, partnering with internal stakeholders to develop strategy and position the company effectively
  • Partner cross-functionally with People, Operations, and leadership teams to provide practical, risk-balanced legal advice that enables compliant decision-making across the Care network
  • Identify systemic legal risks and develop scalable solutions, using data, technology, and trend analysis to reduce exposure and improve legal and operational practices at scale
  • Help manage outside counsel and litigation spend, ensuring high-quality representation while driving efficiency and accountability
  • Represent the company in administrative proceedings including EEOC, CRD/DFEH, and similar agencies, as necessary, delivering strong, consistent advocacy aligned with company strategy
  • Help the CPL team build and enhance legal processes, playbooks, and training materials, leveraging technology to increase consistency, speed, and clarity in how legal guidance is delivered across the organization
  • Support internal investigations and sensitive employee matters, providing sound judgment and clear guidance in high-stakes or ambiguous situations

Leadership Principles You’ll Be Assessed On:

  • Fly high and dive deep - Ability to operate strategically while also digging into details, connecting day-to-day legal work to broader business goals
  • Balance Incremental and Radical Change - Uses sound judgment to make practical improvements today while identifying opportunities for more transformative, long-term solutions in the future
  • Identify Problems - Proactively spots issues, determines root causes where possible, and drives toward clear, effective solutions
  • Think Systemically - Considers the broader impact of decisions across teams and processes, ensuring solutions work at scale and support the business holistically

We’re looking for you to bring:

  • J.D. and active bar membership, with 4–6 years of relevant legal experience
  • Strong employment law and litigation experience, including handling disputes and administrative claims (e.g., EEOC or state agencies)
  • Deep knowledge of California wage & hour law and familiarity with multi-state employment compliance
  • Experience drafting employment documents, or contributing to motions, pleadings, and litigation strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance
  • Intellectual curiosity; digs into issues, asks thoughtful questions, and challenges assumptions rather than taking things at face value
  • Practical, solutions-oriented mindset; partners with the business in a helpful, pragmatic way rather than taking a purely risk-averse approach

Preferred:

  • In-house experience or advising high-growth, multi-state employers
  • Experience with related areas such as workers’ compensation, insurance claims, professional liability, or commercial disputes
  • Familiarity with healthcare, non-medical home care, or franchise models
  • Interest in technology, data, and AI-driven legal solutions
