As Mercury continues its rapid growth trajectory, navigating the complex and ever-evolving partnerships and regulatory landscape is paramount. The fintech industry is under increased scrutiny and regulatory compliance is not just a necessity but a competitive advantage. By ensuring that we are ahead of the curve in terms of compliance, we not only protect Mercury from potential legal and financial pitfalls but also position ourselves as a trustworthy and reliable partner for our customers.

We are seeking a highly motivated compliance professional to build and lead our Financial Partnerships compliance program. In this role you’ll work cross functionally to help identify, track, and manage financial partner requirements while supporting all external efforts with the partners themselves. You will develop a strategy for the function, build the team to implement that strategy, lead program development, and support Mercury’s focus on sound compliance risk management.

In this role, you will:

  • Establish a foundational strategy to manage Mercury’s financial partner obligations and continually assess our compliance posture
  • Work across Compliance and key cross functional teams to align financial partner requirements across our partners and ensure they are sufficiently addressed through product solutions or new operational builds
  • Support governance efforts on behalf of Mercury’s Compliance organization including monitoring ongoing compliance and establishing mechanisms for reporting on partnership health
  • Lead remediation efforts to ensure we’re addressing opportunities to remedy and improve Mercury’s compliance program
  • Provide operational and compliance subject matter support to cross-functional teams as they design and implement workflows, tooling, and reporting
  • Support the Compliance function in defining and achieving departmental initiatives, maintaining product support playbooks and best practices, developing and documenting scalable solutions, and liaising with external parties
  • Contribute to building a strong culture of compliance across Mercury’s teams

You should have:

  • 8+ years of experience working in compliance advisory role, ideally in a financial technology company or in the payments industry
  • Demonstrated track record of working with financial partners on regulatory compliance matters including, but not limited to: financial crimes, licensing requirements, regulatory reporting, financial product obligations, consumer compliance, conduct risk, complaints handling
  • Experience evaluating emerging products for compliance risk, working with the product and business stakeholders to implement creative solutions to tough compliance requirements, and conducting compliance reviews of new products and marketing materials
  • Comfort with building or expanding on existing compliance program infrastructure to incorporate oversight of financial partner requirements, including developing new processes and workflows
  • The ability to identify and define problems, build project plans to address them, and manage implementation of their solution
  • The ability to effectively communicate across various lines of business and senior management
  • An ambitious sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore areas outside of your comfort zone, like new markets or new product types
  • The ability to work efficiently and independently in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment, with a strong understanding of when to escalate urgent issues
  • Respect for and interest in financial rules and regulations, as well as an eagerness to innovate and drive the industry forward
