About Nelo
Nelo is a leading fintech in Mexico, reimagining credit to expand consumers’ buying power through cards, loans, bill payments and a marketplace. With over $300M USD in annual GMV and $140M+ raised in equity and debt, we are on a mission to transform the way consumers use credit in the region. Our lean and technical team includes alumni from Uber, Rappi, DiDi, and Amazon, operating across Mexico City and New York.
We move fast, think deeply, and hold a high bar for execution — and we're looking for someone who thrives in that environment.
Role Overview
We’re hiring a General Accountant to own core accounting processes across Nelo’s Mexico and US entities. You’ll lead day-to-day accounting, monthly close, and reconciliations; ensure compliance with US GAAP and Mexican NIFs; and partner with Finance, Treasury, Data, and Product to keep our books accurate and timely. You’ll work in Oracle (ERP) and help strengthen our controls, automations, and reporting as we scale.
What You’ll Do
Own the monthly close: journals, accruals, prepaids, deferrals, fixed assets, and intercompany eliminations.
Prepare and review account reconciliations (banks, processors, AR/AP, loans/interest, commissions, FX, VAT/IVA)
Ensure accurate revenue recognition in line with US GAAP and Mexican NIFs (e.g., lending, card, bill-pay, and marketplace flows).
Maintain a robust chart of accounts and documentation (policies, process narratives, recon schedules, tie-outs).
Manage intercompany transactions (billing, cost-plus, interest, settlements) and consolidate Mexico/US entities.
Prepare management reports: trial balances, flux analyses, close packs, and audit-ready workpapers.
Assist with external audits (US GAAP consolidated and Mexico local), SOX-lite controls, and process improvements.
Monitor processing fees, network costs, and vendor invoices to ensure accurate classification and cost optimization.
Who You Are
3–6 years of progressive accounting experience in fintech or a financial institution (lending, payments, cards, or marketplace preferred).
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA/CPC or progress toward certification is a plus.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Mexican NIFs; comfort reconciling differences and documenting positions.
Hands-on experience with Oracle (ERP/Cloud) — posting journals, building reconciliations, and designing close workflows.
Advanced Excel/Google Sheets; familiarity with SQL is a plus.
Detail-oriented, organized, and fast — you meet deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
Comfortable in a lean, highly collaborative environment with shifting priorities.
Spanish fluency required; professional English proficiency essential.
Experience with lending/loan accounting (interest accruals, EIR, reserves), card networks/processors, or payments reconciliation.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with BI tools (Metabase, Looker, PowerBI) and finance data models.
Prior audit experience (Big 4 or similar) or audit management from industry.
Exposure to FX, multi-currency consolidations, and transfer pricing (cost-plus).
Oracle Netsuite expertise
