In this role, you’ll lead the legal support for Plaid’s new Consumer Reporting Agency and our Credit business, and be a key part of the business’s leadership team.
You’ll work closely with business leadership and other key internal stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, designers, compliance and legal teams to help us comply with a range of legal obligations, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, making sure we build a compliant business from the ground up for our products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead attorney supporting the Head of Plaid’s Credit/CRA Business and their leadership team. Key partner on strategy and execution
  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and other legal matters related to lending, credit, and consumer reporting agency activities
  • Deeply embed with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, compliance, and product marketing to integrate legal considerations into the product lifecycle
  • Assist go-to-market and commercial counsel in deals, ensuring legal compliance and mitigating potential risks
  • Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws and regulations, and ensure proactive adjustments to company policies and procedures
  • Draft and review legal documents and disclosures related to consumer reporting and data protection
  • Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary and represent the company in regulatory discussions

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with an active license to practice law
  • Minimum of 10-15+ years of legal experience, with expertise in FCRA and consumer reporting agency operations
  • Prior experience with consumer reporting agencies
  • Strong understanding of consumer protection rules and regulations, including UDAAP and GLBA, and data protection and privacy laws
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to provide practical and strategic legal advice to cross-functional team
  • Good sense of humor with a strong desire to grow and learn
