What you'll do:
- Perform advanced welding, fabrication, and repair on complex assemblies using multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, stick, etc.).
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols to ensure precise execution and compliance with specifications.
- Troubleshoot welding issues, adjust parameters, and optimize processes to improve quality, throughput, and repeatability.
- Conduct inspections of welds using visual and non-destructive testing methods, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Lead, mentor, and train junior weld technicians and support cross-functional teams on welding best practices.
- Maintain welding equipment, perform routine calibration, and ensure proper operation of tools and fixtures.
- Document work performed, support development of standard operating procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve production issues and support new product introduction.
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical trade school certificate in welding or related field preferred.
- 5–8+ years of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Advanced proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, GTAW, SMAW) and working knowledge of various metals, including aluminum and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols.
- Demonstrated experience with weld inspection methods, including visual inspection and familiarity with NDT techniques.
- Strong understanding of welding codes and standards (AWS, ASME, or equivalent).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot welding issues, optimize parameters, and improve process reliability.
- Competence in using fabrication tools, measuring instruments, and precision equipment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to mentor or lead junior technicians.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain high safety and quality standards.
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate degree or advanced technical training in welding, metallurgy, or manufacturing technology.
- Current AWS, ASME, or other industry-recognized welding certifications.
- Experience working with robotic or automated welding systems.
- Proficiency in advanced fabrication techniques such as jig/fixture setup, precision fixturing, or custom tooling.
- Familiarity with machining processes and equipment, or sheet metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of metallurgical properties, heat-affected zones, and weld failure modes.
- Experience in an aerospace, defense, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to support root-cause analysis and corrective action processes (RCA, 8D).
