What you'll do:
- Support the design of electro-mechanical solutions for avionics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration
- Create and update 3D CAD models, drawings, and system layouts for avionics hardware
- Assist with structural, preliminary thermal, and modal analyses to ensure avionics survivability in operational environments
- Work closely with electrical engineers to define mechanical constraints for PCBs, harnesses, and avionics assemblies
- Participate in design reviews, integration activities, testing, and troubleshooting during bring-up and flight readiness
- Support compliance efforts for environmental, safety, and EMI/EMC standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461)
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 0 years with a Master’s degree or a PhD without prior experience (or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience using CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar for part design and drawings
- Basic understanding of electromechanical systems, avionics hardware, and mechanical integration concepts
- Strong desire to learn, take feedback, and grow technical depth in a fast-paced development environment
Preferred qualifications:
- Hands-on experience through university engineering clubs or competition teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, AIAA Design/Build/Fly, rocketry, robotics)
- Exposure to avionics, UAVs, aircraft, or robotic systems through internships, research, or industry roles
- Familiarity with PCB layout constraints, harnessing concepts, or avionics packaging
- Hands-on experience with testing electronics (vibration, thermal, environmental)
- Experience working with fabrication shops, contract manufacturers, or prototype builds
- Interest in startups, R&D, or defense innovation environments
- Active or eligible for U.S. Secret Clearance
