The Opportunity

Basic Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, operating, scaling, and evolving distributed systems and high-volume transaction applications in a 24/7 environment.
• Strong architecture and design skills with a track record of architecting and delivering distributed, cloud-based microservices, event-driven architectures and RESTful API’s.
• Lead the technical vision and direction of the system, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. Excellent communication skills with an ability to right-level conversations for the audience.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools to improve the system’s performance, reliability and scalability.
• Mentor and coach other engineers on technical skills, design principles, code reviews, etc.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in building E-Commerce Platforms, and/or Point of Sale systems.
• 8+ years of experience in either Java (with Spring Boot or similar frameworks), Golang, Python, Swift/Objective-C, Javascript, React, Ember, SQL etc.
• 5+ years of experience building large scale experiences across Mobile and Web.
• Operations experience managing, deploying and maintaining enterprise large scale solutions and drive operational excellence across the organization.
• Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders or customers.
• 5+ years of experience on Cloud Native technologies on AWS, GCP or Azure with 2+ experience in GCP and/or Kubernetes specific technologies.
• 5+ years of experience in building highly performant large-scale data and storage systems based on Cloud technologies like CloudSQL, DynamoDB, Cloud Spanner, S3 etc.
• 2+ years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Data Intelligence and leveraging

Job Summary

AEO is hiring a Principal Engineer to join our Customer Engineering team which owns digital and store software systems including but not limited to E-Commerce, Point of Sale, Web and Mobile applications, Marketing Technologies, Customer service systems as well as the underlying Cloud Platform. You are a strong technologist who will lead the long term technical strategy and architecture for all our customer facing systems across web, mobile and stores. The right candidate can solve difficult technical problems and dive deep into the details necessary to achieve it. This position requires the ability to build high quality, low latency solutions in a rapid, iterative delivery model supporting the ever-changing needs of the business. This candidate must be a role model for other engineers, mentoring and raising the technical aptitude of the entire team. We are seeking a seasoned engineer with a proven history delivering enterprise solutions. The ability to work within a service team model where you own what you build will be key. You will be required to work cooperatively with other teams to ensure the right overall architecture, best solutions in and using an agile SDLC.

A successful candidate will have a history working as a senior technical leader delivering enterprise scale solutions for a variety of business spaces. Experience working in different teams on varied problems is also important. As a Sr. Principal Engineer, you are also a leader and must be dedicated to diversity and inclusivity. Finally, this position requires the ability to solve the most challenging problems with flexible implementations. As a senior member of technical staff, this candidate will shape the next generation of AEO Digital and Store software systems and enable teams to deliver on product and

business goals through platform design.
