Job Description

Type of role: Direct Hire

The salary range for this role varies based on experience:

  • 3-6 years of experience: $80,000 - $110,000 per year
  • Senior level (6+ years of experience): $110,000 - $140,000 per year

Interview Process:

  • 1-hour interview with the hiring manager via Microsoft Teams
  • Second interview with other members of the team
  • Final round conducted onsite (Temecula, CA or Sacramento, CA)

The System Integration Automation Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting the instrumentation, controls, and automation systems used throughout the water and wastewater industry. This position is responsible for configuring and programming PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial networking to monitor and control treatment plant processes, and equipment. The Automation Engineer will implement and enhance automation systems and infrastructure to optimize plant performance, reduce downtime, increase process efficiencies, and meet all regulatory compliance standards. This role will collaborate cross-functionally to execute automation projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with project teams to understand process requirements and develop automated control solutions utilizing PLCs, SCADA, and OT networking equipment.
  • Programming PLCs and SCADA systems to monitor and control water/wastewater treatment equipment and processes including pumps, valves, chemical dosing, filters, clarifiers, etc.
  • Designing and implementing OT networks to connect PLCs, SCADA systems, and instrumentation with proper cybersecurity controls.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting for existing PLC/SCADA systems and OT networks.
  • Ensuring automation systems meet reliability, security, safety and performance requirements.
  • Staying current with the latest automation technologies and cybersecurity best practices in the water/wastewater industry.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Education/Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, controls, industrial, or computer engineering desired. Advanced degrees welcomed.
  • Experience in programming PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Modicon, etc.) and SCADA systems (Wonderware, Ignition, Inductive Automation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of modern PLC programming languages (Ladder Logic, SFC, STL, FBD, etc.) and SCADA development environments.
  • Experience with industrial networking protocols commonly used in OT environments (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, etc.)
  • Understanding of cybersecurity standards and best practices for securing OT networks (NIST 800-82, ISA/IEC 62443, etc.)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and process control equipment used in water/wastewater facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills working with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Willingness to continuously expand automation skillset and keep current with latest technologies.
