About the Role:

Symmetry, a dynamic “mini-startup” within Gusto, is seeking a dedicated Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs using Java, and will be well-versed in Agile software development practices. You will play a key role in building scalable and secure backend services that power our applications. A primary emphasis of this role is placed on unit testing and code coverage to ensure the reliability and quality of our software products. Additionally, the successful candidate will showcase strong documentation skills to ensure clear communication within the team and facilitate seamless project collaboration. Our team consists of 30 engineers, each bringing their own skills and experiences to the table. With a few engineers handling each product, we work closely together to drive success and achieve our goals. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

• Work at various parts of the stack (client side, server side, and cloud services)
• Collaborate with our product management and design teams to understand customer pain points, come up with solutions, and then prototype, iterate, and launch daily
• Build a product that our customers genuinely love

Here’s what we're looking for:

• 3-5+ years of full stack experience with a strong focus on Java
• Solid understanding and practical experience building RESTful web services.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks for web and API development.
• Proficiency with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and experience working in Agile teams.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with tools such as Git, Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, JIRA, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working with AWS components and services
• SQL and fundamentals of relational database design (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced team environment
• Strong work ethic supported by solid time-management skills

• Interest in complex product development problems
• Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $131,000/yr to $163,000/yr in Scottsdale & most major metro locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
