Summary / Daily Responsibilities:
- On a daily basis, an Engineer II deals with a wide variety of tasks depending on the team they are in: streaming and microservices, A/B testing, data modeling and delivery, and internal tool building. Regardless of the daily tasks, the focus is on delivering high-quality, high-maintainability code. At this stage, they are honing their technical skills and may begin to explore beyond their immediate tech stack, delving into stack-agnostic patterns and architectures. They are starting to contribute to the team by not only completing tickets but also helping brainstorm new ideas, flagging inefficiencies, and influencing how the team does its work.
- Writes high-quality, clean, concise, well-tested code
- Builds highly scalable distributed services with some guidance from senior staff
- Gets involved in documentation such as code docs, wikis, release plans, etc.
- Contributes to architecture and/or implementation decisions within the team
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation, providing timely response and resolution to production issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Understands system architecture and programming paradigms; learns new technical areas and ships code independently.
- Proficient in a codebase area (e.g.,back-end, service) and with Golang, and/or Python.
- Demonstrates continuous learning, improvement, and the ability to suggest/implement technical solutions.
- Communicates assumptions, opportunities, risks, and complex systems to diverse audiences.
- Scopes/estimates stories, communicates limitations, and manages time off effectively.
- Owns/delivers tasks, understands domain scope, and handles production issues.
- Self-directs work, gathers context, and considers code observability, maintainability, and efficiency.
- Documents/refactors code and follows standards/procedures.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, participates in recruiting, and engages in team activities.
